Resilience is formed when we find peace in the valley and it is realized when we experience peace of mind.

Peace is a foundation to achieving resilience. Moreover, when we cultivate peace in our heart, mind and body we support a healthier perspective so we can rise up.

Resilience is what we all seek in 2021. Resilience requires Peace. Furthermore, we can see the value in building this up more than ever before. HOW is a big question on which we will all want to reflect! How do we become more resilient? What is needed to sustain the resilience we gain in this VUCA world?

First, the year started the theme of resilience by exploring love, however, in February I shifted to peace.

2021 theme: resilience
February topic: peace
Weekly Foci included:

  1. peace shall destroy many;
  2. Keep the Peace;
  3. peace in the valley; and,
  4. peace of mind.

Our “mind is using our brain to create it self.”  – Daniel Siegel

Resilience relies on a quiet mind and heart and gut. Our mind is our operating system and it uses our brain, all five elements, as its master processor.

NEW FORMAT THIS YEAR

Check out January’s blog to learn how to use this format to support your own journey of growth.

What surfaced through the month?

In the first week,

I am an assertive person. Furthermore, I stand strong when I feel my values are crossed. Additionally, I establish high standards for myself and others in my life and I’m willing to demand they be met. As I explored the similarity in my view of what is right and wrong I saw the reflection of the part of my heritage that I despise. As I moved into adulthood and could see the destructive force of the “ethical” frame of my culture, I saw how I needed to look more deeply at how it manifested in me. While I had learned to discern the truth about what I had been taught, I had failed to see the depth of the impact. Finally, seeing it more clearly helped me understand how peace will destroy many.

In the second week,

Being a peace keeper was repugnant to me. Those who engaged in this or perhaps trafficked in what I saw as a “pleaser” approach were weak and empty in my judgment. When reflecting, I realized I was telling myself a story that keeping the peace was submission rather than strength. Reframing it to focus on creating the peace shifting my perspective dramatically.

Week three,

This was a powerful week for me. I examined the many valleys of my life and two things surfaced. Ultimately, I have overcome many AND I have done so when I surrendered to the benefits of stepping into a mindful practice. It was only when I immersed myself in a peaceful process did I find my way to the surface where I could breathe again.

Week four

Rox

It was the perfect week to be exploring peace of mind. I am in a program that coincidently entered the topic of finding and celebrating our inner sage. The professor encouraged us to spend the week exploring with the help of a picture of our 2 or 3 year old self. Looking at her loving and generative spirit frequently every day, moved me to find my beautiful essence. Peace of Mind, it turns out, starts with a deep self awareness

This Month’s Reflective Questions

Weekly reflective questions for February:

  1. ONE: what can I do today to reduce my participation in a group think approach that silences dissenting voices or seeks to avoid taking constructive action or challenge my current perspective?
  2. TWO: how do I avoid telling myself the truth and owning up to the truth with others in an effort to keep the peace to make my life easier?
  3. THREE: who do I need to be or want to be in my current circumstance to support my capacity to see the possibilities that exist and how to make them a reality?
  4. FOUR:  how am I embedding a peace of mind into my daily practice as a leader and individual and what is one thing I can add to generate and share more of this?

Peace

In this newsletter, “Peace Shall Destroy Many”, I look at how hiding behind peace can be ugly and destructive.

Peace – worth keeping

“More than keeping the Peace”  explores how for peace to be fully powerful it must be an act, not a retreat.

peace in the Valley

In the third newsletter, “Let There Be Peace in the Valley”, I share my personal experience with applying peace in the valleys of my life.

Peace of Mind

Week four’s newsletter, “Peace of Mind“. I reflect on the power of a quiet mind when assessing a situation or performing with a high degree of precision or excellence.

My favorite Insight for the month

Peace is not the absence of conflict or hardship, it is the means to process, move through and ultimately conquer conflict and hardship.

This month, in the midst of a group discussion on Zoom, I was side-swiped. Someone called me out for disrespecting her and demeaning her. I was immediately shocked and very confused. After others acknowledged her for speaking her truth, I decided to apologize, careful to ensure it wasn’t a qualified apology. I had no idea what I had done. I reflected on it, chose to believe the other person had no ill-intent and eventually decided it is essential, if I hoped to learn from the situation, to know what I had said that had triggered the reaction.

The next morning I sent her an email asking for a conversation, clearly identifying my intent to better understand. She agreed and very quickly we figured out what prompted the misunderstanding which culminated in an apology for me.

I seek peace of mind, not a cheap kind of peace so I quickly asked if we could clarify this learning for the group. I had been called out in front of a group so it was important to be that things be clarified for the group as well. She readily agreed and offered to send an email outlining her misunderstanding before the next meeting.

My insight: we don’t generate resilience without being willing to seek the truth of a situation first. AND, then we must ensure full restitution of order is realized.

An invitation to Walk with me.

Together let’s examine options consciously and authentically to make choices that move us strategically toward where we want to be.  Therefore, where my client wants to go, is my paramount focus. Strategy is a about choices. Execution on these choices requires masterful performance. Furthermore, a well-developed process allows us to enjoy the journey far more fully
